Chatime Malaysia

Chatime Malaysia has expanded a lot. Now with over 30 branches nationwide, you can enjoy your Chatime almost anywhere!

I admit, I’m not exactly adventurous when it comes to drinks, so I usually go with a normal Pearl Milk Tea. I’ve tried their Hazelnut Milk Tea, their Macha Red Bean Ice Blended and their Grass Jelly Milk Tea.

My all time favourite is still the Pearl Milk Tea though.

One of the main reasons why I’m reviewing this brand of tea is because they have excellent customer service! Their Facebook page used to be flooded with complaints of their bad quality-control in some of their branches, and I think they resolved the problems, for the page is pretty much empty nowadays except for their updates of new branches opening.

When I went out with my friend Carmen the other day, I ordered a Large Pearl Milk Tea, 70% sugar and 30% ice. They gave me 70% ice and 30% sugar. You’d think that wouldn’t be that bad? It was. It was diluted and not sweet at all!

Just out of curiosity, I e-mailed a feedback e-mail to their feedback service. They replied very courteously and asked me to come back so they could prepare another FOC drink for me.
All I had to do was go back to the same outlet, quote my name to the supervisor, and I got my complimentary drink!

I’ve never had any other problems except the one mentioned above.

What’s great about Chatime is that it the prices aren’t crazy! It’s pretty reasonable for an aromatic cup of tea! Usually it’s around RM5.90-RM6.90, depending on the size, the flavour and your toppings! Delicious and affordable!

When you buy your Chatime, they’ll give you a receipt with a receipt number.
There’ll be a neon—or something like that anyways—sign which will have numbers on it. Wait till your number is being flashed on said sign, go to the collecting counter and enjoy your cup of tea!

Many people are afraid of drinking bubble tea or eating the pearls/jelly due to many rumouring health issue problems.

Well, if you do some research, you can find videos of Chatime making the jelly or pearls, and they’re pretty authentic and albeit not super duper healthy, they don’t kill and aren’t that bad.

For example:

This video addresses the health and customer service. Many consumers has complained that the Chatime Ai Yu Jelly has plastic in it, when it really is the layer of jelly on the surface after they cool it. Completely edible. They made this video to address this matter.

Also,
“Chatime DOES NOT import nor purchase raw material from the supplier or importer mentioned in the report.  All our products are certified to be free from DEHP. We work closely with the Ministry to ensure that we sell safe products to our consumers. Hope this clarifies.”

Pretty satisfied with Chatime, in fact I’m craving a Chatime right now! I wonder if one day they’ll sell chatime by the sachet of some sort which you just need to add warm water and put ice! :3 Oh I dream of that fine day! :’)

In the meantime, enjoy your Chatime!

Hui Lau Shan Healthy Dessert @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

Attention mango lovers! The famous HK dessert chain Hui Lau Shan will be opening at 1 Utama Shopping Centre soon. For those who haven’t been to Hong Kong before, just let me just say that it is a very common dessert shop over there – even more common than Old Town White Coffee in Malaysia. So you could say it is one of the must ‘eats’ when visiting Hong Kong.

When I was in Hong Kong last year I already went to the some of their branches at Mongkok, Wong Tai Sin and the Chek Lap Kok international airport. Their everything-mango dessert menu is seriously extensive with a lot of varities like ice cream, milkshake, fruit platter, mochi and even herbal jellies.

Seasonal items are featured frequently at Hui Lau Shan too, like this Double-Boiled Hasma with Bird Nest in Coconut. Not only it was very delicious (to be honest, even better than the mango based ones) the ingredients are good for your skin and complexion too! Even the presentation is top notch as well as you can see the coconut sits on a bed of ice cubes to keep it cool.

Even though the desserts are not cheap by Malaysian standards, they are obviously a lot better than what our local dessert shops could make. Once you try it, you won’t fancy the Kei Tak Sek‘s version anymore. Compared to Lucky Dessert, I am more excited about Hui Lau Shan opening in Malaysia and am anticipating for the day to come. I just hope they will maintain the standards and ensure the desserts taste as good as those in Hong Kong.

Scallop Congee is one of my most oft cooked congee for weekend lunch. Okay, make it Scallop Porridge for those who are more familiar with the word porridge. Actually, it’s the same. And whichever name you call it, it will still taste as good though I suspect the word “congee” sounds much more sophisticated and refined to be used.

For this congee, I use dried scallops which I purchase from the wet market. You can get them from supermarkets and some chinese herbal shops or even, dried sea produce. I use those which are relatively small in size – perhaps about the size of half a pop corn as they are cheap and easy to cook.

In the picture above, the scallop congee appears white in colour. I have a habit of eating my scallop congee with an egg. What I would do is to break an egg into the bowl and pour boiling congee over it before giving it a good stir. The egg gives the congee a much smoother texture and definitely tastes better. Game for a bowl? =D

This is my recipe for the Scallop Congee

QQ SnowMix @ Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Not long ago, I just had a review at QQ SnowMix of Seri Petaling, and today I'm stepping into the same outlet, but at Bandar Puteri, Puchong.

Taipei Big Big (台北大大碗) @ RM24.90
Recommended for 3 to 4 persons sharing. It is based with 3 types of ice--- Grass Jelly Ice, Taro Ice and Soya Ice--- and 12 Toppings! Meaning that if you want to try different toppings and flavours, you can have them all in one go now!

Let's compare the size of the bowl with an iPhone, now can you imagine how HUGE it is?
Calling all the Taiwanese desserts lovers out there, perhaps you can finish it all by yourself.
